Movie 'Big World' produced by Hengdian Films launches on Netflix

Big World,a touching movie about a young man with cerebral palsy and his family, premiered on global streaming platform Netflix on March 20, making it now accessible to audiences worldwide.

The film, produced by Hengdian Entertainment subsidiary Hengdian Films, first launched in China on December 27, 2024, and has reached an accumulated 700 million RMB in box office revenue so far.

Big World is directed by Yang Lina, produced by Yin Lu and written by You Xiaoying. It stars Yi Yang Qianxi (Jackson Yee), Lin Xiaojie, Jiang Qinqin and Zhou Yutong.

The movie tells the story of Liu Chunhe (played by Yi Yang Qianxi), a young man who suffers from cerebral palsy and his journey in helping his grandmother (played by Lin Xiaojie) achieve her long-held stage dreams, while figuring out his own path in life.

At the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival, Big World was shortlisted for the main competition unit and ultimately won the Audience Choice Award.

Director Yang Lina shared that she conducted deep research into cerebral palsy patients and the challenges they face before making Big World. Globally, there are about 17 million people who have cerebral palsy, 6 million of whom live in China.

According to Yang, “the movie is ultimately to reach the hearts of the audience,” she said. “Behind Liu Chunhe stands many young people just like him. This is a movie dedicated to ordinary people.”

The movie’s arrival on Netflix heralds greater international reach, allowing viewers worldwide to share in its warm, resonant message. Regardless of where audiences live, they will now be able to experience the characters’ bittersweet stories of self-growth and family ties.
