CCTV Television Series _ Hengdian Film & TV Festival of China: An Industry “Salon” Celebrating Young Talent

Hengdian recently held its 8th annual Wenrong Awards ceremony, a part of the 2021 Hengdian Film & Television Festival in China.
CCTV’s Awakening Age won Best Series (including Web Series) at the gala, a major event that also screened nationwide premieres of over 120 domestically produced and co-produced films.

The event ran from 20-23 October and drew a vast number of participants, allowing Chinese film and TV professionals a chance to engage with one another and reflect on works produced throughout the year.
The festival brought together various sectors of the film and television industry, including production, distribution, marketing, publicity, as well as additional aspects of the industry chain like costumes and props, set designs and visual effects.
Winners for awards categories
Exceptional works are featured at the festival, selected based on two criteria: to highlight unique features of the filmmaking of TV production process; and emphasize the achievements of young professionals to promote continued talent in the industry.

In the Best Newcomers for Films category, Liu Haocun won Best Young Actress for her portrayal of Liu Guinü in One Second.

In the same category, Wang Renjun won Best Young Actor for his portrayal of Mao Zedong in 1921.

In the Best Newcomers for TV Series, Zhang Wanyi was awarded Best Young Actor for his performance in Awakening Age as Chen Yannian.

In the same category, Jackie Li was crowned Best Young Actress for her role as Wu Yuehong in Song of Youth.

The Pioneer director Xu Zhanxiong won the Best Young Director for a Film.

In the series category, Fei Zhenxiang won for his role as director of Candle in the Tomb: The Lost Caverns.
Recognizing the crew

The Festival also recognized outstanding young screenwriter, cinematographer, art director, movie scorer and other areas of production in the “Best Crew” category.

The Best Young Screenwriter for Films award went to Hi, Mom, a moving tale adapted from a true story.


The Best Young Screenwriter for a TV series was awarded to Ancient Love Poetry, in which the ideas of romantic and altruistic love are narrated through elements of Chinese fantasy, transcending the bounds of conventional storytelling.
Cinematographer Lei Ming and artist Lü Feng were named Best Young Cinematographer for a TV Series and Best Young Designer for TV Series for their work in Like a Flowing River 2.
Background actors are the unsung heroes

This year’s Wenrong Awards also saw the creation of the Best Extras Award, to honor the scores of unsung heroes in the industry. Though not often celebrated in the limelight, background actors are an indispensable part of any cast.
According to data from Hengdian World Studios, the number of extras registered in Hengdian has exceeded 100,000, of which more than 8000 are long-time residents of the town.
