Hengdian spotlights short films and global partnerships at Hong Kong Filmart 2025

Last month Hengdian World Studios took part in Hong Kong Filmart (Hong Kong International Film & TV Market), Asia’s largest film and TV marketplace, to showcase its work in short films in recent years and forge international partnerships going forward.

The event spanned four days from March 17-20 and drew over 760 exhibitors from 34 countries and regions, including more than 30 regional pavilions and seven new pavilions from Australia, Cambodia, France, India, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam.

A global leader in film production, Hengdian World Studios spotlighted short dramas, a growing field it has played a key role in, focusing on its competitive advantages across the entertainment industrial chain in the rise of short films internationally.

Caroline Guo, Hengdian World Studio’s International Business Development General Manager, spoke about three key pillars of the company’s short drama business: production infrastructure enhancement, global expansion and ecosystem optimization.

Hengdian World Studio and the Hengdian International Short Drama Alliance will continue collaborating with domestic and international partners to build a sustainable short drama ecosystem and facilitate overseas expansion for Chinese short dramas, Guo announced.

Notably, Hengdian World Studio’s team reached cooperation agreements for international growth with various partners, marking significant progress in global short drama development, international film co-productions, talent cultivation and industry exchange.

The company’s representatives put special focus on Asian film markets, engaging in deep conversations with industry representatives including from Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong about partnerships and projects.

The team took part in the “Thailand-China Film & Television Communication and Cooperation Forum,” as well as the “International Short Drama Association 2025 Asia Forum” to discuss the future of the drama industry.

Meanwhile, it also broadened horizons in South Korea and Japan’s film industries, sharing with the Korean Film Council information for its studio facilities and filming resources, while speaking with Japan’s Fuji TV about short drama co-productions and possibly shooting Japanese film productions in Hengdian.

Furthermore, Hengdian World Studios also promoted film education and cultural exchanges at Filmart. Representatives from the Taiwan Film and Creative Industry Association expressed interest in facilitating cross-strait young performer exchange programs. Simultaneously, it discussed internships and study programs for Hong Kong students at Hengdian with the Hong Kong Cross-Strait Youth Exchange Promotion Association.

Hengdian World Studios also spoke with Matthew Dabner from the University of Technology Sydney about using academic exchange programs to advance international film education, as well as promote the joint production of short dramas between China and Australia.

Representatives engaged with professionals from the Philippines, Cambodia and Turkey, discussing industry trends, copyright tradition and cultural exchanges, in order to lay a solid foundation for Hengdian World Studios’ global talent cultivation and exchange initiatives.

Overall, Hengdian World Studios made remarkable progress at Filmart 2025. It looks forward to working alongside industry partners worldwide to explore new possibilities in the film industry to ensure all great content find their place on the global stage.
